October 21st - Festival of Garlic Community Planting Event 2-10pm
Retreats: We host retreats involved in areas such as self actualization, yoga, rites of passage, and recovery.
Workshops: We host educational workshops such as: permaculture design, natural building, tree planting, crop research, sound healing, light healing, herbal medicine, food preparation, and preservation, and various skill shares.
Camps: Participants spend time working on the land, focusing on the triple enrichment of land, community, and self care.
Current research is involved in food forest development, following a silvo pasture model which uses animal grazing to provide fertility to the land while designing land forms such as ponds and swales to move the water throughout the land to desired areas. Trees are planted on contour, along with grains and other cash crops in “alleys” between planted trees. Over time the nut and fruit trees become the cash crops. We will also consider new “climate change” migration trees which may come from southern climates and test their vitality. Our objective is to be constantly looking to find useful, hearty plants and growing techniques.
Other research on the horizon will be aimed at community development, plant nursery production, and alternative energy systems, such as wood gasification and free energy.
Community Open House: African Drum and Dance class held at New Rising Sun Farms Community house featuring farm to table food; hosted guided forest trail walks; hosted permaculture talks and current farm design demonstration talks
